Giving FAQs

Following is a sampling of some of the most common questions about giving to Â鶹²ú¾«¹úÆ·.

Besides a monetary gift, the most common gifts are readily marketable properties such as securities, stocks and real estate or other property.

Yes, these are considered restricted gifts, ones used by the University as directed by the donor. An unrestricted gift allows Â鶹²ú¾«¹úÆ· More to use your contribution where it is most needed.

Gifts to The Fund for Â鶹²ú¾«¹úÆ· are used for the current-year operating budget and are fully expended during the fiscal year in which the gifts are received. On the other hand, designated gifts are earmarked for a specific purpose, such as an endowed scholarship, programs or building projects.

Because Â鶹²ú¾«¹úƷ is a non-profit (501c3) institution, contributions are tax deductible. The staff in the Office of Institutional Advancement will work closely with you and your advisors to assure you receive the maximum tax benefits and make the most of your generosity to the University.

A charitable gift annuity is when you transfer cash or other assets to Â鶹²ú¾«¹úÆ·, and in return, the University promises to pay you or a designee an annuity for life, or for a term of years. With a gift annuity, you can simultaneously make a charitable gift and provide guaranteed payments for life for one or two persons.

  •  – offsets annual operating expenses and provides scholarships for deserving students;
  • Endowments – includes scholarships, faculty development, professorships, and department chairs
